An Edwardian mahogany armchair retailed by Gillows, Lancaster the shield-shaped back with three leaf-shaped splats carved with foliage, the central splat with an oval shell patera, downcurved arms, stuff-over seat, on square-section tapering legs with spade feet, inlaid throughout with stringing, the front legs with coloured inlays of bellflowers, ribbons and paterae, numbered L26740, stamped 'Gillows Lancaster'
