About this Item
Cordoba is situated high up on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain, and while it’s now under highly anticipated revival, the last vintage produced to date was 2004. After the maiden 1995 vintage acquired 5 stars in the 1999 edition of Platter’s, the wine (along with their maker, Chris Keet) was propelled to cult-like status, amplified further by their small production.
Crescendo was remarkable in that the wine was made in an austere, unapologetically tannic style, whilst the industry moved towards big plush reds.
Critics Ratings
‘Spicy ‘O2 (70% cabernet franc, 20% merlot, 10% cabernet sauvignon) will eventually emerge from gaunt, sulky youth dominated by wood & big dry tannins - fruit is there under well-fleshed musculature. (If impatient now, decant well in advance.) Unusually (for Keet) high 14.5% alc gives finish warmth, detracting a little from customary elegance.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2005, 4.5*
