Notes
This five-piece tea and coffee service was made by the Durham Silver Company of New York, active in the mid-twentieth century. Its hand-chased floral panels, gadrooned borders and acorn finials reflect the Colonial Revival taste that persisted in American formal silver well into the 1950s and 60s, offering a traditional, hand-worked alternative to the increasingly modernist design of the period. Durham remains a comparatively little documented maker beside majors such as Gorham or Reed & Barton.
