About this Item

Pessac-Léognan Blanc, 1985
1 (1 x 1) 750ml

Château Haut-Brion is the only First Growth situated in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, and its unique terroir has produced prized wines for close to 600 years. After a visit on May 25, 1787, Thomas Jefferson wrote in his diary; “The soil of Haut-Brion, which I examined in great detail, is made up of sand, in which there is near as much round gravel or small stones and very little loam like the soils of the Médoc.”. Typical of the Left Bank of Bordeaux, the 50-hectare property is planted to all the allowed red and white grape varieties, with the Haut-Brion Blanc often demanding higher prices than that of the red.

Critics Ratings

The 1985 Haut-Brion Blanc is one of my favourite vintages in recent years. This bottle does not disappoint. Youthful in colour, it maintains that disarming intensity on the nose that knocks you sideways: cold wet limestone, sea cave, honeysuckle and this bottle showing a touch of quince. Previously I made comparisons towards Chablis, although this may be too rich and decadent. The palate offers stunning balance with citrus lemon and that killer, flint-like tension that drives the finish. It is a phenomenal, almost effervescent, life-affirming, stellar Haut-Brion Blanc that stands alongside the 1989 as one of the best ever.’ - Neal Martin, Vinous, 98/100 (Jul 2018)

‘Pale gold. Masses of lanolin on the nose with some herbal notes. Lots of tanginess but overall broad and full. Real life and round, satin texture. Spicy persistent finish.’ - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 18/20 (May 2016)
