Commemorating the inauguration of the Voortrekker Monument, Pretoria 1949, SVK stands for Sentrale Volksmonumente Komitee (Central Peoples Monument Committee) which was formed in 1931, with the aim of building a monument to honour the Voortrekkers who left the Cape Colony in 1835.
