Notes

Robert Harper established his own manufacturing silversmith’s business in London in 1853, having previously worked for the established firm of Joseph Angell III. His workshop produced a broad range of domestic and presentation silver, including tea and coffee services, salvers, prize cups, baskets and tankards, and also undertook specialised chasing and gilding. Harper’s surviving work is of particular interest for the exuberant embossed and chased decoration characteristic of much high-Victorian silver.
