Notes
Cohen and Charles began trading as London silversmiths before the First World War, and continued production under a later registered mark used from the late 1940s into the 1970s, within which this pair of candlesticks falls. Their capstan form, a squat, waisted silhouette popular across English silver of the mid-twentieth century, made them practical dressing table or bedside candlesticks rather than a formal dining pattern, produced in steady numbers for a market that still favoured traditional, functional silver alongside more contemporary design.
