About this Item
Chenin Blanc (50%), Viognier (25%), Roussanne (25%)
This wine was made by Lulo under the mentorship of Alex Starey whilst she was at Keermont Vineyards during her second year as a Protégé.
Chenin Blanc, Viognier, and Roussanne grapes were hand-harvested from selected vineyard blocks and processed as a single batch. The fruit was whole-bunch handled and lightly crushed before overnight skin contact. After pressing, the juice was left to settle before being racked into a 500 litre French oak barrel, where primary fermentation took place naturally. The wine was then transferred to a new 225 litre French oak barrel to complete malolactic fermentation and was aged on its lees for approximately 10 months. This dry, naturally co-fermented blend opens with complex aromatics of stone fruit and white florals. The palate is rich and finely textured, where subtle oak and lees offer depth and balance that carries through to a long, elegant finish.
The name Inkonjane, rooted in the isiXhosa expression Inkonjane ebhabha emafini - a swallow in flight - stems from Lulo's heritage and reflects the adventurous spirit, individuality, and curiosity that shaped her upbringing. Just as the swallow signifies movement and the arrival of a new season, this blend mirrors her own journey of exploration, bringing together different cultivars to capture a richness of texture and blossoming aromatics - made with the courage to pursue what lies ahead with confidence and joy.
