About this Item

Sandford Chardonnay 2024
36 (6 x 6) 750ml
100% Chardonnay

Wine of Origin: Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley
Winemaker: Gordon Newton Johnson

This wine comes from the best single-vineyard site of Chardonnay on Newton Johnson, illustrating the clarity and energy obtained through our granite soils in a cool, maritime climate. It is an authentic expression of Chardonnay, following a natural winemaking approach with no added yeast, enzymes or bentonite. Only the best-quality first juice fraction is used from the whole-bunch press. The vineyard has reached a mature age of 17 years, while the drier and warmish 2024 vintage has amplified the fruit flavour and concentration of the wine.

Tasting Notes: The wine reveals elaborate citrus fruit layers of yuzu and lime, juxtaposed with white flowers, baking spice, crushed stones and gunflint. The palate displays a plush and compact texture, which is prolonged with vitality in the tapered finish, creating a wine of precision, energy and persistence.

Ready to drink in 3 to 8 years.
