Notes
Give & Take
The theatre production Zeno at 4am (the first part of the production Confessions of Zeno) was made as a kind of shadow-oratorio, a mixture of live music and shadow-theatre. Some of the shadows were torn paper cut-outs, some were three-dimensional objects that actors wore as appendages, or cumbersome costumes. The etchings were made at the same time as the production, using the fluid black forms of sugar lift for an equivalent for the strange shapes of the shadow-figures or the actors with three-dimensional extensions. I'm not sure if some of the images were made as images for what became theatre characters, or if the characters first gave shape to the sugar lifts.
