About this Item

Rubicon 1995
2 (1 x 2) 750ml
Meerlust is one of South Africa's most historic estates, in the Myburgh family for eight generations, on the cool, maritime flats near False Bay in Stellenbosch. Rubicon, first made in 1980, is its pioneering Bordeaux-style blend and one of the Cape's most iconic reds. The 1995 is now fully mature. Stephen Tanzer reviewed it for Vinous, and Bruce Sanderson for Wine Spectator.

Critics Ratings

"Bright ruby-red. Sappy aromas of black cherry, oak spice and mint. Intensely flavored and youthfully tough in the mouth; a rather unrefined style of wine but with plenty of concentration and backbone. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and strong evidence of oak." - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous (Mar 2000)

"Purity and grace are the hallmarks in this maturing raspberry- and cassis-flavored red, though there's plenty of structure and muscle to back it up. Firms up on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc." - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Apr 2000)
