Notes
Jentsch visited the original owner's Karakul sheep farm, Dreylingen, in the Bethanie district of then South West Africa (now Namibia). While inscribed with the title Candelaber Aloe, this picture features kokerbome, or quiver trees, indigenous in southern Africa used for quiver arrows and to store food in hollowed branches.
