Niepoort

Vertente 2019

Portugal
About the Session

Portugal is represented almost entirely by the Douro Valley, with Niepoort leading the offering. A small but powerful offering of Ports round out the catalogue, with beautifully mature 1985’s from Feuerheerd’s and younger offerings from Grahams, Niepoort and Quinta de la Rosa. Finally, a fifteen year old Madeira Malvasia from Henriques & Henriques offers interest for the discerning buyer.

About this Item

Vertente 2019
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
Also from the Niepoort stable, the Vertente is the estate's DOC Douro entry-level red, made from indigenous varieties sourced from the valley's best sub-regions and designed to showcase the freshness and early accessibility that the Douro can produce alongside its more monumental wines. The 2019 is a bright, focused expression of the valley's everyday quality. Alison Napjus from Wine Spectator gave it a rating of 90.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“A plummy red, bright and focused, showing good definition to the flavors of black cherry and black raspberry fruit, with accents of dried lavender and thyme. Minerally finish.” - Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator, 90/100 (Feb 2024)
