Notes
The verso of this work is an unsigned painting thought to be by JH Pierneef. Hendriks and Pierneef met in Holland in 1926; Willem van Konijnenburg was a mutual friend. Hendriks came to South Africa on Pierneef's advice, and later became the director of the Johannesburg Art Gallery.
