Critics Ratings

Saint Cosme Gigondas 2020
‘This has a beautiful texture, harmoniously blending plum sauce, raspberry preserves, charred alder and floral perfume with a fresh, invigorating dusting of white pepper and crushed dried herbs. Delivers an intense undercurrent of mineral, incense and lavender notes that course through the finish, which goes on and on. Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault.’ – Wine Spectator, 94/100

‘Moving to the Gigondas, the base is a brilliant wine that will evolve for 15 years if well stored. It has lots of red and black fruits, some peppery, violet, and mineral nuances, medium to full-bodied richness, and terrific balance. It's a worthy addition to any cellar.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, 93/100

‘Made from a blend of 60-year-old vines of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, this is a graceful expression of what cooler microclimates in Gigondas can deliver. The wine is enjoyable in its youth, with notes of blackberries, plums, wild rosemary, violets, green peppercorn, and sandalwood. However, cellaring this elegant wine another year or two will be rewarding.’ - Anna-Christina Cabrales, Wine Enthusiast, 92/100 (May 2023)

Saint Cosme Gigondas 2018
‘Deep, dark chocolate and cedar to the black fruits here. The acidity is correct, and there's a fresh mineral seam that brings textural relief. Very full-bodied, powerful and intense in tannin. Pretty monumental with fairly high alcohol and the finish is just a little drying. Organically grown on limestone marl and Miocene sand soils. Whole clusters fermented in concrete with indigenous yeasts. Aged 70% in barrel, 20% new, the rest in recently used barrels (one to four wines), the rest in concrete. 2028-2040’ – Matt Walls, Decanter, 93/100 (Oct 2019)

‘Saint Cosme's 2018 Gigondas is a blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 14% Syrah and 1% Cinsault, aged in a combination of new and used oak, with 30% of the volume matured in concrete. Full-bodied and generous, it's round and supple, with no hard edges to hamper the easy flow of asphalt, red raspberries and black cherries across the palate. Boasting ample but not excessive concentration, it's a lovely, seductive example of Gigondas to enjoy over the next decade or so. 2021-2030’ - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Nov 2020)

Saint Cosme Gigondas 2013
‘Offers a solid, fleshy feel, with lots of crushed plum, warm raspberry and steeped black cherry fruit flavors rolled together. Notes of black tea, licorice root and alder fill in on the finish. Very well done for the vintage. Drink now through 2020.’ – Wine Spectator, 91/100

'Starting with the classic cuvée, the 2013 Gigondas comes from a variety of terroir and is made from 60% Grenache and 20% each of Syrah and Mourvedre. Vinified with 100% whole clusters and aged twelve months in older smaller barrels and concrete tanks, it offers classic Saint Cosme notes of black currants, mulberries, licorice and peppery spice in a medium-bodied, moderately concentrated, yet beautifully balanced style the palate. It’s ideal for drinking anytime over the coming 5-7 years. 2015-2015’ - Jeb Dunnuck, 90/100
