Notes

The beautiful, decorated baskets and large grain containers of the Humbi people are considered significant works of rural art. This traditional craft is primarily practised by Humbi women, using natural plant fibre and dyes sourced from their local environment, including the roots and bark of trees like the ancient baobabs found in their region. Beyond functionality, the baskets are a vital part of Humbi cultural expression, alongside other traditional art forms like elaborate hairstyles and jewellery.

Collected in the field by Bruce Goodall, 2024
