About this Item
Art Nouveau-style iridescent glass vase with wrought iron scroll handles
c.1900
height: 22cm; diameter: 14,5cm
Notes
This vase exemplifies the Art Nouveau aesthetic that flourished from the 1890s to the 1910s. The organic flowing lines of the surface decoration and the metal scrolling handles and stylised floral ornament celebrate the craftsmanship and nature-inspired design of the era.
Iridescent glass, achieved through various chemical treatments during the glassblowing process, creates a shimmering, multi coloured surface which adds visual depth to the surface and appears alive and layered as the colours shift with the changing light.
