Strauss & Co is pleased to offer art books from prominent private collectors’ libraries in Johannesburg. Rare books by such artists as Irma Stern (Zanzibar (1943) and Congo (1947) form part of the sale. Also, the very first monographs on such artists as Maggie Laubser (1944) and JH Pierneef (1945). Every book published on these artists, as well as on others such as Walter Battiss, Norman Catherine, Alexis Preller, and Maud Sumner form part of this highly select library collection. In addition, a second art library contains a rare collection of books on British sculptor, Henry Moore covering his sculptures, drawings and prints on offer. The third library on sale features some sought after monographs of the art of William Kentridge.
