About this Item

1986 Red
1 (1 x 1) 750ml

This wine has been checked and re-corked by Amorim, under the protection of an argon gas blanket, with each opened bottle being topped up with reserve wine from the same vintage, recorked, and resealed. This was done under the supervision of a technical team from Amorim Corks and Strauss & Co Fine wine Specialists Higgo Jacobs and Roland Peens, assuring provenance, quality and long life. The Seal Code on the neck of the bottle can be traced on Amorim Recorking Directory

Critics Ratings

'This was one of the top wines of the Engen cellar, which contained many of the eras top South African wines. Without wanting to benchmark this wine, we all remarked at the Southern Rhône characters on nose and palate. It has low acidity, rich fruit, dried herbs and savoury texture. Quite high in alcohol for the era, it is deep, with layers of flavour and enough freshness. The tannins are fine and soft, while finish is both exotic and balanced. Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with Cinsaut and possibly Pinotage. Drink over the next two decades.' - Roland Peens 95/100, (July 2025)
