About this Item
Vintages from the 1960s, 70s and early 80s are some of South Africa's finest of the era. The 1984 Rouge was legendary Gerhard 'Hempies' du Toit's second vintage, after taking over the reins from his father in the newly built estate cellar. Few wineries can lay claim to levels of trust in quality and ageability as Alto reds.
This wine has been checked and re-corked by Amorim, under the protection of an argon gas blanket, with each opened bottle being topped up with reserve wine from the same vintage, recorked, and resealed. This was done under the supervision of a technical team from Amorim Corks and Strauss & Co Fine wine Specialists Higgo Jacobs and Roland Peens, assuring provenance, quality and long life. Seal code on the neck can be traced on Amorim Recorking Directory

Critics Ratings
'The 1984s from Stellenbosch are generally lighter than 1982s and 1986s and the 1984 Rouge shows this well. There is a cherry-berry swirl around a fine acidity, light texture and lovely poise. A lively wine that is a pleasure to drink. A blend of Cinsaut, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Tinta Barocca. Best drunk within a decade.' - Roland Peens 92/100, (July 2025)
