Notes
Raymond Harris-Ching is celebrated for his detailed and expressive bird and wildlife paintings. Largely self-taught, after leaving school at twelve, he began painting professionally in the 1960s, developing a distinctive style of magic realism in oils and watercolours. Inspired by a childhood museum visit and a fascination with birds in flight, Harris-Ching has illustrated numerous books, including The Reader’s Digest Book of British Birds (1969). His work is held in prominent collections in New Zealand, including the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, Dunedin Public Art Gallery, and The Suter Art Museum, as well as the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in the United States.
