‘Benefiting from the cool breeze that blows up from the Breede River, Sijnn’s white is a blend of mostly Chenin Blanc with Viognier and a splash of Roussanne. Youthful, leesy, peachy and creamy, with a little too much oak at present, a hint of honeysuckle and balancing acidity. Drink: 2016-18’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2016, 91/100
‘These slatey, ocean-influenced vineyards lie 230km from Cape Town at the mouth of the Breede River in very new wine territory - in fact, the Malgas Wine of Origin designation was created especially for Sijnn. Made by De Trafford, a new winery was built on the property in time for this 2015 vinatge. Sijnn – a Khoisan name – is pronounced Seine, but this Chenin is anything but French in style. With 23% Viognier and 3% Roussanne in the mix, this is a lovely fruity character. It is unfiltered and made in an oxidative style from low-yielding, young bush vines, with well-integrated oak and ripe yellow fruit and exotic spices. Unique.’ - Tina Gellie, Decanter, 92/100
'A top note of dried herbs before citrus, peach and some leesy complexity. Good weight with coated acidity and a savoury finish. Has breadth and depth - full of exotic flavour.' - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 92/100 (Nov 2016)
