‘John Seccombe uses whole bunch fermentation on the Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah portions of the blend, but not on the Cinsault component. Light, graceful yet wonderfully focused and detailed, this has rose petal, red cherry and raspberry flavours, negligible oak and fine, savoury tannins. 2021-26’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 93/100
‘The 2018 Wanderer’s Heart has a lovely, lilting bouquet of wild strawberry, dark cherries, pressed rose petals and light fynbos scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and moderate fruit concentration. The fleshy, slightly herbal finish is nicely composed. This is very well crafted by John Seccombe. 2021-2032’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 92/100 (Oct 2019)
‘Beginning with a medium ruby core, the 2018 Wanderer's Heart Cape Red is made from a blend of 34% Grenache Noir, 26% Cinsault, 17% Grenache Gris, 13% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah. With a floral essence of rose petal and potpourri spice, bright aromas of cherry skin, dusty raspberry and red plum sway out of the glass. Medium-bodied, the wine offers a lively and energetic mouthfeel with ripe red fruits, while an undercurrent of soft herbaceous tones builds on the mid-palate with growing tannins. The wine ends with a delightfully lifted and fresh-fruited finish. Just under 10,000 bottles were produced. 2021-2025’ - Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate (May 2021)
