Notes

The SU Carburettor Company (Skinner Union) was founded by George Herbert Skinner and later led by his younger brother, Thomas Carlyle (Carl) Skinner (whose cigar case is the present lot)

During the Second World War the Company produced aero-carburettors for the Rolls-Royce, Merlin and the Napier Sabre engines, which powered the RAF's aircrafts. Every Hurricane and Spitfire in action during the Battle of Britain in 1940 used the SU AVT aero-carburettor. A history of the SU Company and the Skinner family was recently published, written and compiled by Mike Harvey.
