About this Item
signed, dated 2003 and inscribed with the title on the reverse of the sheet
Notes
The present lot was printed by Dennis da Silva at Silverton Johannesburg and is a unique print.
Accompanied by a copy of Adrian Searle (2020) 'Strap-ons, style and self-invention: Zanele Muholi review', The Guardian, 3 November, adhered to the reverse.
"Only Half the Picture focuses on skin: its richness, versatility and texture. Body politics is explored in all of its glory, showcasing beautiful scars as seen in Aftermath (2004), and human blood and luxuriant hair, as seen in Bra (2003). Muholi has said that this is a part of politicising spaces in a conscious way – forcing those in power to acknowledge a community that has thus far been ignored. Muholi reiterates: 'We want to bring about change in spaces that are queer-phobic.'"1
