Critics Ratings

'Worn leather, hickory and earth scents accent the deep fruit that Numanthia is known for. But it's the polished mouthfeel and consistent delivery of flavor and texture on this '05 that distinguishes it from so many big bombers from Toro. By the time it's done you hardly feel the tannins on the finish, which lingers comfortably for minutes. Excellent wine to drink over the next six years.' - Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, 94/100 (Jun 2008)

'The 2005 Numanthia was aged for 19 months in new French oak. Opaque purple, it has a superb perfume of violets, mineral, wood smoke, blueberry, and blackberry. This leads to a firm, very structured wine with questionable balance. The finish is long but tannic. This is a wine that demands cellaring but purchasing it is a gamble.' - Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Feb 2008)

'Deep ruby. A deep, youthfully brooding bouquet offers dark cherry, blackcurrant, incense and suave oak spices. Spicy cherry and dark berry flavors show an exotic anise quality and slow-building sweetness. This gently tannic, chewy, extremely persistent wine finishes with echoes of oak spice and floral pastille, not to mention excellent vivacity.' - Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 93/100 (Sep 2007)
