About this Item
Having produced 'port' for the KWV in bygone days, Vergenoegd bottled its maiden own-label in 1986, made by sixth-generation winemaker John Faure from tinta barocca (and later also touriga naçional) that he'd personally propagated from two single Portuguese vine cuttings.

Critics Ratings
1987:
'An elegantly understated sweet dessert, from tinta barocca a comfortable 17,5% alc., with deep, ripe plum colour. On palate, style is restrained, contrasting with many Cape ports which are heavier, richer and much sweeter.' - Platters SA Wine Guide 1990, 3* (Good to Very Good in its Class)
1986:
'first vintage bottled entirely from tinta barocca grapes, about 17,5% alc. and nicely balanced, the sweetness and earthiness of the grapes "enfolding" the brandy spirit sufficiently to avoid any burning spirity faults. (Sold from the farm only in cases of 12 bottles!)' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 1989, 3* (Good to Very Good in its Class)
