Critics Ratings

'Classically conceived Cape Bordeaux blend, a benchmark in SA for the style. Led by Cabernet Franc, the other 4 varieties supporting. 2014 subdued and restrained; elegant cassis, black fruit, cedar and charming leafiness, with understated oak (just 30% new) in perfect harmony.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2017, 5*

'This consistently outstanding red blend draws fruit from the Simonsberg, the Helderberg and the Polkadraai Hills. It's a classic, refined, effortlessly stylish blend of mostly Cabernet Franc with Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Capsicum, graphite, cedar wood. mint and cassis and red plum favours are embellished by aromatic, vanilla-scented oak. Drink: 2017-25.' - Tim Atkin SA Special Report 2016, 95/100

'Richly layered, but suave rather than bombastic, with fine-grained tannins giving subtle support to the core of warm cassis, raspberry coulis and plum confiture notes. Offers a gorgeous backdrop of smoldering tobacco, presenting a loamy echo through the finish.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Dec 2016)

'This blend of 45% Cabernet Franc, 18% Malbec, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot opens with attractive green, herbal notes of peppercorn, laurel, blackcurrant leaf and plum skin. Smooth at first, with ripe plum and berry flavors on the palate, the fine tannins offer a pronounced yet dusty grip throughout the long, dry finish. It's a well-balanced wine that should continue to gain complexity.' - Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast, 92/100

'Good red-ruby. Highly perfumed nose combines currant, eucalyptus, wild herbs and licorice pastille. Richer and deeper than the basic cabernet bottling, with smooth dark berry flavors accented by mint and herbs. Here the tannins are sweet and noble, allowing the dark fruit and herb flavors to carry well on the long aftertaste. Yes, The Mint is minty, but it has the courage of its convictions.' - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 91+/100 (Feb 2017)
