Notes
I wanted to avoid work that looks posed and aimed for them to be open-ended, to keep these things as enigmatic and covert as possible. Nothing really gets resolved. I often get asked what it is that these people are doing? My answer is that your guess is as good as mine. While painting, when I find that I begin to recognise what they are doing, when their expressions start confirming an idea, I tend to back off from the work. The work is becoming too specific, I tell myself, and I don't want it to be so.
