David & Nadia Aristargos 2020
'Driven by old-vine Paardeberg Chenin Blanc, with the other 51% made up of Clairette Blanche, Semillon, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Verdelho, Viognier, Marsanne and Colombard, this is a seamless cuvée from David and Nadia Sadie that's enjoying its twelfth release. Spicy and perfumed, with subtle skin contact tannins, nuanced oak and wax, pear, peach and lemongrass flavours.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2023, 93/100
Complex blend tweaked in 2020, but chenin (49%) still leads roussanne, semillon, marsanne, clairette, viognier, verdelho & grenache blanc, plus colombard. Subtle florality, with lemon edge to stonefruit vivacity. Harmonious & exciting, it lingers forever. - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2022, 4.5* (94/100)
David & Nadia Chenin Blanc 2020
'Honey and revitalising light struck-match character on the nose. Beautiful texture and balance in a wine you could drink immediately but which has structure lurking under the very pure, well-composed blend. Not as complex as the single-vineyard wines but hugely pleasing. Ends on a suggestion of Granny Smith apples.' - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Sep 2021)
'Light but intense, with spicy loquat, pear & nectarine on 2020. Considered, 'hands-off' winemaking. Concrete joins old-oak ferment & ageing, so only 86% wooded. Lively, fresh & vivid yet with good creamy cashew breadth.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2022, 4.5* (93/100)
'This is "just" the basic Chenin Blanc from David and Nadia Sadie, but it's better than many people's top wine. Made with fruit from seven vineyards, four of them on decomposed granite, this is a classy, understated white with negligible oak, layered citrus and beeswax flavours, a hint of aniseed and stony grip.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 94/100
David & Nadia Hoë-Steen 2020
'Hoë-Steen comes from a 1968 vineyard to the west of Malmesbury on deep red iron and clay-rich soils. Broader and richer than the other single site Chenins from the Sadies, with some ferrous grip, fine oak integration, pear, cream and stone fruit flavours and a taut finish. 2022-30.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 96/100
'Quite a panoply of aromas on the very intense nose. Perhaps the purest expression of Chenin Blanc in the David & Nadia stable. Long and neat. But I can't help seeing parallels with a fine Puligny-Montrachet, I'm afraid. Very long and sleek, with real refreshment value and ageability.' - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Sept 2021)
David & Nadia Plat'bos 2020
'Very intense minerally nose with extract and green-fruit flavours but no shortage of ripeness. Very marked acidity on the very long citrus finish. This one should run and run. A suggestion of chewiness on the finish. You certainly could enjoy it now but ideally I'd wait until next year. Great throbbing life to this wine which has something of a Grosses Gewächs about it in terms of structure: a confident mix of body, acidity and a bone-dry finish.' - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17+/20 (Sept 2021)
'One of the great whites of the southern hemisphere, not just of South Africa, this is the Montrachet of Chenin Blanc. Made with three different pickings from the top part of the Paardebosch farm, it has the concentration of its 40-year-old vines, mouth-watering acidity and pH, chiselled freshness and layers of rock salt, aromatic spices, pear and lemongrass.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 98/100
'Earliest picked of the chenins (12% alcohol), 2020 lighter, less zingy than previous but no less thrilling. Subtle lavender & marmalade, then pear & stonefruit. Broad yet taut, textured & structured from oaking, which adds spice to baked apple at the end.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2022, 5* (96/100)
David & Nadia Skaliekop 2020
'Complex 2020 shows razor acid balance with fruit and oak. Beautiful purity, too, of dried apple and peach on lees backing. Assured and elegant, nothing overstated or dominant. Sophisticated yet refreshing, with wonderful length and ethereal density. From shale ('skalie') site.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2022, 5* (95 pts)
'An Old Vine Project wine for the first time in the 2020 vintage, being from a vineyard planted in 1985. Almost colourless. Almost stinky, it's so mineral-driven on the nose! But on the palate it's much broader and friendlier. Very fine satin texture with a freshness and obvious ageability.' - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Sept 2021)
'Skaliekop comes from a small outcrop of shale and is entirely made with bush vine fruit. Herbal, intense and very focused, with what David Sadie calls "lateral tension", understated depth and concentration, notes of fresh dough, beeswax, lanolin and lemon zest and a stony, chiselled finish.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 96/100
