Johan Hendrik Vos, baptized in the Cape on 19 January 1806, was the son of Jacobus Johannes Vos (born 1785) and Susanna Sophia Lotter. He married Hillegonda Hendrika Aspeling and died on 9 February 1849. Vos worked as a silversmith from 1834 to 1849 operating at several addresses in Buitengracht Street: 11 Buitengracht (1834–41), 73 Buitengracht (1842–48), and 78 Buitengracht (1849–50). In various directories, he is listed as Jan Hendrik. His known maker’s marks include 155, 156, 157, and 158.
