The name of this wine pays tribute to the man who recognized the potential of Rustenberg, and bought the farm in 1941, reuniting the property, restoring its buildings and investing in its potential to make world class wines. The oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard on the estate is named the Peter Barlow block and consistently produces powerful, long-lived Cabernet Sauvignon that is given the best possible treatment in the cellar.

'The flagship 2007 Peter Barlow is a pure Cabernet Sauvignon from vines planted in 1990. The wine was raised in 64% new oak, the remainder 2nd and 3rd fill. It has an intriguing bouquet of roasted herbs, tobacco and a touch of dark chocolate and good definition. The palate is very well balanced with ripe plum and black currant on the entry. The black fruit is interlaced with dried herbs and fresh tobacco with firm and grippy tannins. It displays impressive weight towards the bold, structured finish and this 2007 is only just beginning to show what it can do. Drink 2014-2022.' - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Aug 2011)
