Critics Ratings

“First Label” in the Kanonkop red line-up. Deeply, richly, coloured, complex, perfumed, and well-structured tannic red with ageing potential. Do not look for elegance too early. These are masculine wines. Matured mainly in Nevers small barrels, for minimum 14 months, often considerably longer. Sometimes finished in large Yugoslav vats. Composition of blend varieties but generally 60% cabernet sauvignon, 25% cabernet franc, 10% to 15% merlot, with a little melbec and souzao. They are planted together in the same vineyard and harvested, crushed together.' - Platter's SA Guide 1989, 4.5*
