About this Item
The 1997 Harlan Estate "The Maiden" is a highly regarded wine from one of Napa Valley's most prestigious producers. Harlan Estate, often referred to as a 'First Growth of California' is known for producing some of the most sought-after wines in the world. The Maiden is the estate's second wine, made from fruit that doesn't go into the flagship Harlan Estate bottling, but still reflects the estate's high standards and exceptional quality.

Critics Ratings
'A touch austere, with a trim, focused band of earthy, cedary currant, sage, dill and cherry flavors, gaining depth and turning elegant and supple..' - James Laube, Wine Spectator, 90/100 (Oct 2000)
'Readers should not overlook the dense purple-colored 1997 Maiden, a creamy-textured, full-bodied, unctuously thick, rich wine. Jammy cassis, new oak, smoke, and espresso notes explode from the glass of this blockbuster. An amazing effort, it will drink well when released, and last for two decades.' - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 94/100 (Jan 2000)
'Saturated ruby. Pungent, roasted aromas of black raspberry, currant and maple syrup; distinct suggestions of surmaturite. Superb sweetness and roasted ripeness in the mouth. The tannins spread out to coat the entire palate, but ultimately come across as less supple and more rustic than those of the flagship Harlan Estate bottling. Still, this stains the palate with flavor.' - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 92/100 (May 2000)
