'The 2019 Cuvée Cinéma was fermented using only native yeasts and a 70/30 ratio of whole clusters to whole berries in a stainless steel tank. The wine was then transferred to barrel (25% new), where it remained for 11 months before bottling. It has an open and expressive bouquet of pure red cherries, red currant and rose petal aromas, blossoming with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins and wonderful symmetry at play on the precise and almost Morey-Saint-Denis like finish. Excellent.' - Neal Martin, Vinous, 93/100 (Apr 2021)
'Like 2018 (4.5 stars, 94 pts), tightest, least ready of these pinots, but 2019 is sheer class. Hint of spice, suggestion of ripeness, savoury tones, all subtle, understated. Multi-layered, silky viscosity merely glimpsed behind restraining framework. Magnificent maturity ahead. Natural ferment (as all pinots), 70% wholebunch, 25% new oak, 11 months.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2021, 5* (95/100)
'Cuvée Cinéma is sourced from the top end of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley from a clayshales vineyard planted in 2009. The stems were unusually mature in 2019, so Peter-Allan Finlayson added 70% whole bunches. The result is sappy, spicy and quite dense, with effortless concentration, black cherry and plum fruit, sinewy tannins and good ageing potential. 2022-29' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 95/100
'Grapes from Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, 70% whole-bunch fermentation. Compelling aromatics of red and black berries, violets, dried herbs and spice. The palate meanwhile shows both great fruit purity and structure, the tannins fine yet simultaneously grippy. Vivid, balanced and long, the stand-out wine of the vintage.' - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 95/100 (Jun 2020)
