Critics Ratings
‘Showing deep aromas of yellow apple, wax melon and grilled lemon, the 2018 Hoe-Steen Chenin Blanc offers dusty expressions of citrus blossoms in the glass. Medium-bodied, the wine starts broad and spicy on the palate, showing a tight mineral tension with growing, energetic acidity. Flavors of raw honeycomb, underripe pineapple and a subtle element of bitter waxy greens, the wine shows a balanced structure on the palate and continues to get spicier in the mouth. Bright citrus acid drives the long, food-friendly finish with lingering elements of white pepper and persistent phenolic bitterness.’ - Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Feb 2021)
‘This stunning, world class Chenin Blanc comes from deep clay and iron soils. It's a late ripening site planted in 1968 and often the last to be picked at the winery. Rich, concentrated and very fresh, with stony, flinty aromas, subtle aromatic spices, pastry and pear flavours and the faintest whisper of oak. 2021-28’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 97/100
‘Creamy texture. Racy and lifted. Very dancing and fine. Real impact on the palate. Lightly chewy finish. Very long.’ - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Jul 2019)
