About this Item

Cape Town, South Africa
Laurie Wiid van Heerden 'Castle of Good Hope Bench 2', 2015
solid ironwood beam shaped by hand, in natural state, fitted with tarnished, wax-sealed brass legs in Wiid Design's signature style
45cm high, 300cm wide, 26cm deep

Notes

The original 2 x 6m beams were possibly used as ballast by ships passing through the Cape. In exchange for repurposing these beams into four benches, the designer presented the Castle of Good Hope with a bench honouring the life of Krotoa.

Provenance

Ironwood beams, approximately 200 years old, were reclaimed by the designer in 2015 from the Castle of Good Hope, Cape Town, South Africa.
