An Anglo Indian teak wood painted and carved four-panel screen, late 18th century
each panel painted with sprays of flowers on a canvas ground, the frames elaborately carved with leaves, birds and flowerheads, the reverse solid carved teak, on bracket feet, 197cm high, 185cm fully extended, 3cm deep

Provenance

The screen belonged to Mr and Mrs Du Toit, grandparents of the current owner. The screen and interior of their home Nieuwe Plantatie was featured in the Cape Times 1934. It was later rescued from a house fire in 1953, later to be rebuilt and renamed "Grand Roche", today a luxury hotel in Paarl.
