About this Item
Tokaj-Oremus is a historic wine producer, located in the Tokaj region of northeast Hungary. The estate makes a range of the region's famous botrytized Tokaji wines, with sweetness levels ranging from three to six puttonyos. The history of Oremus dates back to the 1620s. Remarkably, the Oremus vineyard is credited with producing grapes for the first Tokaji Aszú ever made. Legend has it that in 1650, fearing an attack by the Turks, harvest was postponed for two months. Grapes were able to dehydrate on the vine and eventually produced an exceptional, intensely sweet wine. In 1993, the Alvarez family, owners of Spain's iconic Vega Sicilia, purchased the estate and founded Tokaj-Oremus Viñedos y Bodegas. The winery, located in Tolcsva, has 13th Century underground cellars where naturally sweet Tokaji wines are stored and aged.
Tokaji is one of the world’s great experiences, and Oremus—backed by Vega Sicilia—is one of its stars. Wines from their vineyards have been coveted for 400 years for their mind-bending complexity and deliciousness.
A deep and inviting golden color in the glass. Attractive aromas are led by citrus blossom and apricot preserve, supported by layers of lemon peel and savory spice. The mouthfeel is decadent, yet vibrant and mouthwatering with flavors of honey balanced by enticing acidity and spice. A delicious example of one of the highest quality Tokaji producers.
The production of the Aszú wine (wine of tears) is a meticulous process, which requires great patience and extensive know-how. It is only possible in good vintages, when nature brings rain at the end of the summer and sun and wind in early autumn, which are the essential conditions for the process for noble berries to from. The berries swollen due to the humidity split and the 'Botrytis cinérea' establishes in its skin and creates the noble rot. The same formulas are used to make the wines as have been used for hundreds of years.

Critics Ratings
‘An elegant version, round and creamy, with orange peel acidity enlivening a delicate mesh of apricot preserves, graham cracker, honeycomb and tarragon flavors. Long and mouthwatering on the finish, which shows hints of nuts, citrus and smoke. Furmint, Hárslevelü, Zéta and Sárga Muskotály. Drink now through 2028.’ – Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator, 92/100
