About this Item
Founded in 1988 by the charismatic and universally admired Beyers Truter, known as the father of Pinotage for his abiding championing of the proudly South African grape, and chief winemaker at Kanonkop Estate from 1981 to 2003. Beyers is a member of the Cape Winemakers Guild, has been nominated for the IWC Wine Personality of the Year, and won the Robert Mondavi award for World Winemaker of the year in 1991. He has also won South African Wine Producer of the Year 2003, IWSC.
Named after Beyers' trusty canine companion, Diesel proudly features on the elegant label that is now well established as one of the top modern expressions of the variety, confirmed by multiple accolades and awards.

Critics Ratings
‘Only the best 30 barrels out of 300 selected for this kingpin Pinotage, 2014 big (over 15% alcohol) but fresh and refined. Rich black berry/cherry fruit already in perfect harmony with cedar/vanilla oak spice but will really sing in a decade.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2017, 4.5*
'Full ruby-red. Musky, oaky aromas of cassis, dark cherry, licorice and cedar, plus a whiff of woodsmoke. Plush, broad, mouthfilling wine with very sexy chocolatey oak and dark berry flavors dominating. Wonderfully sophisticated and deep but will need time to express itself. I’d like to come back to this in five years, when it’s had a chance to absorb some of its baby fat.’ – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 92/100 (May 2017)
