A Japanese Imari dish, Meiji period, 1868-1912
the centre decorated with a flowerhead enclosed by a double blue-line, the border enamelled with four alternating panels, each enclosing peony blossoms in a balustraded garden with two butterflies above and further flowerheads and foliage, wavy gilt rim, the reverse with three stylised Buddhist emblems, raised on a low foot, minor wear to the gilt rim, 21,3cm diameter; and another, early 20th century, the centre decorated with a flowerhead enclosed by a double blue-line, the border with alternating panels of birds in a balustraded garden and Buddhist emblems, wavy gilt rim, the reverse decorated with alternating reishi and bats, raised on a low foot, minor firing faults, 21,3cm diameter
