About this Item
Maritime (due to the vineyards proximity to False Bay). The vineyard is situated in the Firgrove area of Somerset West and is a mere 4km's from the shores of False Bay. A single-vineyard wine from a bush vine parcel planted in 1980. The wine is heavily influenced by the cool south easter which blows in from the Bay.

Critics Ratings
'Sourced from a vineyard planted in 1980, 4km from False Bay. A slight leesy note before citrus and peach. Good weight and texture on the palate with nicely integrated acidity. This has layers of flavour, the finish long and savoury.' - Christian Eedes, Decanter.com, 95/100 (Feb 2021)
'It's always tricky to decide between Wade Metzer's two site-specific Chenins (why not just buy them both?), but in 2018 this is my favourite. Made with fruit from a cool, False Bay-influenced, old-vine parcel, it's pale, refined and appropriately salty, with sea breeze freshness and oatmeal, beeswax and lanolin notes freshened by acidity. 2020-25' - Tim Atkin SA Special Report 2019, 95/100
'Single bushvine block within seabreeze of coast, planted 1981. 2018 sings with freshness, agility; natural ferment adds nuance to pear, red apple aromas. Weight without loss of purity via older oak, 9 months lees ageing, no stirring. Lovely now, plenty in store.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2020, 4.5* (94/100)
'Grapes from a 1980 vineyard situated 4km from the shore of False Bay. A complex nose with notes of citrus, yellow peach, even some pineapple plus a little earthiness and yeasty character. The palate has great depth and richness with nicely tangy acidity and a slightly bitter finish. Has a pleasant oxidative quality to it.' - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 94/100 (Apr 2020)
