'Paper Kite hails from a 1963 vineyard on the Paardeberg and is an unequal marriage of Semillon and 6% Semillon Gris. There's no skin contact here, but John Seccombe says he was "looking for a bit of austerity" in the wine. Stony, leesy and focused, it has subtle struck match reduction, lanolin and beeswax characters and some granitic grip. 2020-28' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 95/100
'Serene & gently assertive 2018 has great depth of fruit allied with savoury complexity. Smooth, even a touch oily. At 13.4%, the highest alcohol here - ripeness achieved with sufficient acidity for excellent balance.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2020, 4.5* (93/100)
'From a 54-year-old Swartland Semillon and Semillon Gris vineyard. Subtle notes of lime, green melon and oatmeal on the nose. The palate is very much about mouthfeel rather than flavour - this wine being pleasantly smooth textured with coated acidity, the finish gently savoury. Moves languorously through the mouth.' - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 91/100 (Jun 2019)
'The 2018 Paper Kite is Sémillon with 5% Sauvignon Gris, aged in used oak. The waxy bouquet shows touches of sea spray and dried orange peel that need a little more delineation. The medium-bodied palate has a waxy-textured opening, notes of dried honey and toffee apple, and a finish that needs to develop a little more freshness. Give it another year in bottle.' - Neal Martin, Vinous (Oct 2019)
