Notes

Gordon Froud has been actively involved in the South African and international art world as artist, educator, curator and gallerist for the last 30 years. He has shown on hundreds of solo and group shows in South Africa and overseas, and has served on many arts committees throughout South Africa. He has also judged many of the important Art competitions from local to national levels in South Africa.

Froud has worked with found objects as modules for construction for many years. The virus as a modular form has recently been explored in his work. Many of his large works are site specific and Froud takes the final setting of these works into account. In Cone Virus Froud aimed to create a large visible piece that contrasted with the natural landscape thus heightening the differences between the natural and the man made. The vibrant colour was selected to stand out from the lush green environment.

Froud in his own words: “My sculptural and digital output has for many years been based on the reworking of found objects and images that are altered, reworked and ultimately recontexualised.
