A Victorian silver trophy cup, E S Barnsley & Co, Birmingham, 1898, of Anglo-Boer War interest
the whole profusely embossed with acanthus leaves, the centre with a cartouche engraved 'PRESENTED TO THE MEMBERS OF THE JOHANNESBURG NEW CLUB. BY THE OFFICERS OF THE XV BRIGADE AND STAFF IN RECOGNITION OF THEIR HOSPITALITY. SOUTH AFRICA, 1900. 22ND CHESHIRE. 30TH E LANCASHIRE. 98TH N. STAFFORD. THE 24TH S. W. BORDERERS.', above a band of vacant shield-shaped cartouches, the sides applied with c-scroll and acanthus-leaf handles, the cover similarly embossed and surmounted by the later socle and figure of a soldier holding a rifle, 2525g all in, 50,5cm high; and an ebonised stepped circular trophy base raised on four bun feet, 9,5cm high
