About this Item

2002 Volnay 1e Cru Vendanges Sélectionnées
1 (1 x 1) 750ml

Michel Lafarge is the quintessential family domaine. Michel Lafarge, who joined his father at the family-owned domaine in the late 1940s after World War Two, was also a trailblazer in Burgundy, being among the first small-scale producers to begin bottling his own wines for export,’ writes Decanter. Continuing his father’s legacy, Frédéric and his daughter Clothilde make some of the best wines in Volnay from their 10 hectares, which include some of the most prime sites in Volnay. In 2014, they purchased vineyards in Beaujolais and farm them using the same biodynamic practices they employed in the Côte de Beaune.

Critics Ratings

‘This has evolved beautifully and it has retained the exceptional aromatic freshness, elegance and complexity that it displayed from barrel when I initially reviewed it. There is lovely mouth feel and a racy acid balance that serves to highlight the refined quality of the now mostly resolved tannins plus the remarkable detail of the flavors and finish. This is a really beautiful effort that is very Volnay in basic character with a lovely minerality and for my taste, it has arrived at its peak though note that it should be capable of remaining here for another decade.’ - Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 91/100 (Dec 2013)
