About this Item
Situated in the Stellenbosch region, with a history dating back to 1771, Warwick Wine Estate was purchased by a Commanding Officer of the Warwickshire regiment in 1902 and he renamed the farm Warwick as a tribute to his regiment. In 1964, Stan & Norma Ratcliffe started redeveloping the estate, through the planting of Bordeaux varieties with son, Mike Ratcliffe, eventually taking over the reins in 1999. He helped further propel the estate upwards and at the time of this vintage’s release they had ‘listings in 4 of the top 10 restaurants in the world’. In 2018 Warwick was acquired by Eileses Capital, a San Francisco investment firm.
The Trilogy, named for the three major varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, is their flagship blend.
Critics Ratings
'As its name suggests, this is a three-way blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon with 30% Cabernet Franc and 15% Merlot. It’s tighter and fresher than the 2010, with leafy complexity, notes of mocha and graphite and lovely perfume. Floral and feminine. Drink: 2015-24' - Tim Atkin SA Wine Report 2014, 94/100
'Cab-led Bordeaux-style red blend & flagship, 11 a classic Cape expression marrying cassis fruit, exotic spice & fine tannins. Seriously wooded - 2+ years French barrels, 60% new - setting the stage for a grand future.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2015, 4.5*
