Critics Ratings
'2012 perfumed red berries & white pepper aromas provide a glimpse of future delights from single-vineyard Kasteelberg fruit. Palate bound up in dry, chalky tannins from schist-derived soils (same as 2011 (5 stars)), a structured vintage & vinification techniques (the latter identical for all these reds). Pedigree to age.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2015, 4.5*
The 2012 Mullineux Schist Syrah has a more feminine bouquet than the Granite Syrah, perhaps a little more harmonious with blackberry, chalk, redder fruit and perhaps less floral than the Granite Syrah. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent and fleshier tannins than the Granite. It is underpinned by a taut line of acidity and is blessed with a very harmonious and satin-like smooth finish that lingers in the mouth, the minerality coming through on the aftertaste. This is a stunning Syrah from Chris and Andrea and their finest 2012. - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 95/100 (Oct 2014)
'Part Roundstone vineyard and part Kloofenberg. Well drained, more water stress, and hotter. Less blue than the Granite and Iron. Peppery nose. Very tense and lively. A bit denser than the Granite. Electric tension.' - Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Jan 2015)
