Notes
Jill Reid is the author and illustrator of the book Butterfly Gardening in South Africa (Briza, 2000). She lists Plumbago auriculata and Acacia karroo (now Vachellia karroo) as excellent sources of nectar and important food resources for butterflies in the wild, and potentially in suburban gardens as well. 'Karroo' is an archaic spelling of 'Karoo' but cannot be updated because the rules governing botanical nomenclature require species names to remain as registered (although genus names are sometimes changed as new research emerges).
