Notes

“When I first looked at Skotnes’ Still Life, it could as well be called Silent Breakfast, with four plates (for his family?), two glass bowls with fruit and fruit juice. It’s painted on a wood panel, characteristically carved for the necessary texture and life. And then there’s still the unique, striking frame of wood and copper plate that he made himself. I was so glad that it wasn’t sold at our GEORGE 24 December exhibition in 1992 and I was able to purchase it myself to enjoy until my death”. —Dr Matthys J Strydom, 2021
